Finding the Work of a Fine Art Photographer

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

If you are interested in discovering work by a fine art photographer and you do not have any photographers in particular in mind, there are various ways of locating and viewing their work. Art galleries, photography shows and online portfolios are some of the most common ways to find fine art photography and to learn about these artists. You also can learn about various photographers by viewing their work displayed in other venues, such as restaurants and office buildings.

Take a look for art galleries in your area, in the Yellow Pages or online. You can call the gallery to see if they display the work of any fine art photographers. Art galleries with websites typically give details about any work they currently display.

A community calendar in the newspaper or online will alert you about any photography shows, or art shows that include photography. If your area has a photography club, you might subscribe to their newsletter. While they may not have a fine art photographer as a member, these newsletters commonly list events that might be of interest to their members. A fine art photographer may be coming to your region to present a workshop at a local museum or gallery, for example.

Best Selling Audio Books Dependent Upon the Reader

Friday, April 6th, 2012

As many adults are spending more time in the car on their commute, there has been a renewed interest in audio books. Audio books allow drivers to maximize their drive time by hearing interesting books read aloud. This can reduce the tedium of a long drive.

You might think that best selling books automatically translate into best selling audio books. However, you would be forgetting one important factor; the reader. The voice that takes a book and converts it into a recording is critically important to how much enjoyment the audience gets from an audio book. This means that people who regularly listen to audio books have favorite readers and people they do not want to listen to.

In fact, even books that don’t do that well in print may become best selling audio books based on who is reading it. Some readers are able to make even dry stories come alive and many audio book producers add in some additional sound elements to enhance the reading.

So the next time you head off on a long trip, try an audio book. If you like it, make a note of who the reader was and use the information in future selections. If you didn’t like the audio book, consider that it may have been the reader and give a different reader a try.

The Pro Guitar Shop That I Love

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

As a guitarist, it can occasionally be tough to find the right shop to get your gear at. That is why I happen to love my pro guitar shop. Unlike a lot of the other stores around town that just carry a couple popular brands and a couple of cheap, budget brands, the pro guitar shop has what I want when it comes to selection.

Seriously, there are few shops where you can find the really good stuff anymore. For example, if you are looking for one of the new boost pedals from Earthquaker Devices, such as the “speaker cranker” pedal, you won’t find it too many other places. The other great thing that I love about the pro guitar shop is that it is online. That makes shopping a breeze. I don’t have to deal with pesky salesman who are trying to talk me into one of the generic items that they have for sale. Instead, I get to browse through a vast selection of amazing products that you won’t find too many other places. I also don’t spend any money on gas trying to get myself around to different stores. Overall, it’s a really convenient way to get the gear I want.

Science Fiction Fans All Have Opinions About the Best Sci Fi Book

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

What’s the best sci fi book you’ve ever read? For me, it has to be Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. I discovered that book when I was in high school and it really changed the way I think about modern technology, particularly television. I have many other favorites, since I’m a huge fan of science fiction. There are some books by Orson Scott Card and by Nancy Kress that I especially like.

If you go to practically any online sci fi fan forum, you’ll find huge debates about which book is the best sci fi book of all time. You’ll also see a lot of discussion about each person’s own favorites. As a sci fi fan, I find it fun to participate in these conversations.

Sometimes the other people posting help me discover an author I’m not familiar with. When it turns out to be an author I really like, that is a rewarding experience. Other ways to discover authors are to read reviews of sci fi books and to look at lists of books recommended for people who like your favorite authors. Whether you love hard sci fi with lots of multi-planetary action, or you prefer a softer form of this genre that emphasizes personal relationships right here on Earth, you’ll likely encounter many terrific books that you haven’t read before.

Finding Cheap DVD Movies Intended for Children

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Now that our children are moving past the toddler stage, my husband and I have decided to stop our TV service. We don’t want to waste time watching TV anymore. We also aren’t thrilled about the options for children, and so many children’s shows are overloaded with advertising. Because we know that kids enjoy watching TV, however, we started thinking about substituting movies for TV shows. In addition, we realize that kids enjoy hearing the same stories again and again, and we speculate that they might like watching movies again and again as well. This led us on a search for a place to buy a wide variety of cheap DVD movies.

We were happy to discover a website where we can order cheap DVD movies in quantity. This store has an enormous number of movies for children of all ages. We found Disney movies, cartoons and movies with other types of animation. We’re having fun looking through all the titles and choosing a few to start with. We don’t want to promote the idea of sitting around watching movies all afternoon when we’d like our kids to be more active, but we’re figuring on playing a movie or two each week.

100 Books to Read Before You Die: Mark Twain

Monday, January 16th, 2012

When studying literature, there are many works that make today’s list of 100 Books to Read Before You Die that were received very differently when they were first published. For instance, Daniel Defoe’s survival narrative Robinson Crusoe became very popular in its day as an exciting tale of adventure. Today, however, the novel is seen as an incredible treatise on the emerging philosophers of 18th century England. Another example of the different ways in which classic novels have been received is Mark Twain’s novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which was first published as a companion to Twain’s popular books featuring the mischievous Tom Sawyer.

In its day, Huckleberry Finn was popular amongst Twain’s readership, though it did not gain as much popularity as his previous novels about Tom Sawyer. The novel was not controversial in any way, despite its frequent mention of a certain derogatory term used to describe African Americans. Now, the book graces the list of 100 Books to Read Before You Die, despite the aforementioned language that has caused the novel to be banned in many public institutions. Huckleberry Finn is seen by experts today as a great work of American literature, despite the somewhat formulaic nature of Twain’s other novels.
