Why Fuller 18 Speed Transmissions Are Commonly Used
In the world of professional truck driving, there are many options when it comes to transmissions. After researching Fuller 18 speed transmissions, I found that it is one of the most commonly used transmissions amongst truck drivers today. Fuller 18 speed transmissions are popular due to their versatility in being able to haul a wide variety of load weights. This is opposed to a 9 speed transmission which has a smaller range of gears which leads to lower efficiency. In order to attain maximum efficiency, the extra gears in a Fuller 18 speed transmission enable the user to fine tune the amount of power needed to haul loads of a specific weight while lowering the amount of rotations needed when changing gears.
There are several differentials that are available for this transmission, those being the Eaton and Rockwell differentials. The three main purposes for these differentials are to guide the power of the engine towards the wheels, to reduce the amount of rotations needed to switch to the lowest gear, and to transfer power to the wheels while enabling them to rotate at different speeds. In other words, differentials allow the tires on a vehicle to rotate at different speeds. If a vehicle doesn’t have differentials, the tires would be forced to rotate at the same speed.
