When Should You See Edmonton Dentists About Dental Surgery?
Sunday, June 17th, 2012No one likes to hear the words “dental surgery”. Visions of loud drills, suction, bright lights, and bumps in the mouth immediately come to mind. But if you require dental surgery, Edmonton dentists can fix your teeth and get you back to where you were before your teeth issues. There are basically two types of standard, dental surgeries that Edmonton dentists perform. The first surgery is for tooth decay. Your dentist will determine if you need a crown or if the whole tooth and root need to be removed. If you just need a crown, the dentist will grind away the decayed part of the tooth, thoroughly clean the surface, put a protective layer over the tooth, and fit a permanent cap over the tooth to protect it and restore normal function. If there is infection in the soft tissues of the tooth, you may be in for a longer procedure commonly called a root canal. A root canal is required if there is infection in the soft tissues underneath and going into the tooth. Edmonton dentists will scour out the soft tissue, including the root of the tooth, fully clean the area underneath and inside the tooth, and fill the opening with an inert compound that will prevent future infection. Finally, the dentist will fit the tooth with a crown to protect the tooth for years to come.
