Aerobics to Boot Camp and P90X

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Fitness has changed so much over the past forty years.  It used to be you could turn on the television and see people in leg warmers standing on different pedestals showing various levels of intensity while smiling and making it all look very pleasant.  Now, you have programs that mimic boot camp settings and employ harsher tactics to drive into more physical prowess.  Even the exercise videos have changed drastically.  When you compare Jane Fonda with the P90X workout program, it’s like a night a day difference in demeanor, attitude and approach.

Granted, I bet people have had a lot more success with the P90X program in a matter of a few months than people had with the nicer exercise video demeanor.  If you are serious about losing weight, P90X is a good way to go.  However, the whole boot camp approach that is becoming more common is not for the faint hearted individual.  These definitely take some grit and resolve in order to complete and see it through to the finish.  Though the style has changed a lot, the goal is still the same, getting fit.  Whichever method you prefer, it takes commitment to consistently complete any fitness program and that is really admirable.

True Refrigerator People

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Home appliances can say a lot about a person.  I once had my refrigerator go out, but I was gone so much, that I didn’t even notice until a week later.  Fortunately, only the fridge went out and the freezer was still functional, but still.  What kind of person doesn’t even notice when the refrigerator stops working?  A true refrigerator person would notice within hours or a day at most.

I have a friend that has a commercial refrigerator in her home.  It may seem slightly over the top, but she has a lot of kids and when they invite friends over, the kitchen is the place they love to be.  It is like the gathering place of their home and the open area is incredibly inviting.  She loves to entertain, so when you want to surprise someone with a huge sheet cake, or maybe two, that commercial refrigerator is the best.  It has these dual doors, so she can make it all the way through dinner without the person ever even glimpsing the beautifully decorated cakes that are awaiting consumption.

That is a true refrigerator person.  It would either be a tragedy or perhaps optimistically, a motivation if someone like me had that commercial refrigerator.  I her house though, it is a beauty.
